Bird on the Feeder

Mrs. Alice DiLaura

I earned a B.A. in English from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. My first job was teaching high school English in Baltimore.  After several years in teaching, I left to work as a corporate training coordinator for Bloomingdales, New York. After several years in the retail business, I returned to Maryland with the intention of resuming my teaching career and earning additional certifications. Along the way, I earned a M. ED. in Reading Instruction as well as 60 additional credits. For several years I worked as a full time substitute in Baltimore County Public Schools.  I returned to teaching at Lutherville Laboratory in 1996, and spent 9 years there. I then worked as a mentor and Reading Resource teacher in Dundalk, before coming to Windsor Mill Middle School. I am certified to teach Elementary 1-6, English 5-12, and am also certified as a Reading Teacher and Reading Specialist.
I still love the magic of a child realizing new capabilities, understanding a new concept, finding excitement and challenge in learning something new that did not exist for him before that moment. To me every classroom is a learning community filled with unique individuals whose capabilities and limitations create a precious and fragile space. My job is to strengthen the weak, support the strong, and facilitate a place where all can learn safely in their own way. I love the challenge of my job, and am glad to be at Windsor Mill Middle School.
