Windsor Mill Middle School is 1 of 7 middle schools in Baltimore County that is a Lighthouse School. Lighthouse schools lead the way for Students and Teachers Accessing Tomorrow (S.T.A.T.).
What is S.T.A.T?
S.T.A.T is the multi-year transformation of BCPS into a complete 21st century technology learning environment to prepare globally-competitive graduates. BCPS is first redesigning curriculum in the core content areas to redefine what instruction will look like in a blended learning environment, while placing a stronger emphasis on critical thinking and analytical skills. This transformation is necessary to provide personalized learning to our increasingly diverse student population at a time when the economy requires more from out students for future success.
The Lighthouse schools are the first in the system to receive digital learning devices for students; implement one-to-one personalized and blending learning; and create an innovative, comprehensive digital learning culture. Lighthouse Schools also serve as model demonstration sites, with a Teacher Leader Corp (TLC) turning their classrooms into learning labs.
ALL students will receive a laptop device and messenger bag to serve as their digital notebook and storage. This will greatly reduce the need for large binders, notebook paper, etc. Please purchase grade supplies accordingly.

In 2016 Windsor Mill Middle School was named one of 8 expansion middle schools in Baltimore County to teach AVID. The 2017-18 school year is our first year offering AVID as an elective course for all three grades. In addition, Windsor Mill also promotes a school-wide program that encompasses several aspects of AVID to include the WICOR Strategy, Cornell Notes, and promotion of literacy across the curriculum.
AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. Established more than 35 years ago with one teacher in one classroom, AVID today impacts nearly 1.5 million students in 46 states and 16 other countries/territories.
Simply, AVID trains educators to use proven practices in order to prepare students for success in high school, college, and a career, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
